I paint the city as it forgets itself, one brushstroke at a time. Berlin rebuilds itself constantly, and every renovation, every demolished facade, buries a version of the city that once existed. My canvases are built the same way: layer over layer of paint, some scraped back, some left to show through, so that older decisions remain visible beneath the newest ones. I am not trying to depict a street or a building directly. Instead I want the painting to behave like memory itself, imprecise, overlapping, occasionally contradictory. Colour choices come from photographs I take of construction sites and half-demolished walls, then get pushed further from realism with each session. I think of abstraction not as an escape from the city but as the most honest way to describe how it actually feels to live inside its constant change.
